Within the schedule of the Second period of sessions of the National Oceanographic Committee (CONA) on Monday July 5 were carried the meetings of the Working Groups on "El Niño” and Climate Variability (GT.ENVAC-CONA) and "Dynamics of the Ocean and Atmosphere "(GT.DOCA-CONA). Both sessions were conducted in offices of the Meteorological Office of Chile (DMC) and counted with the presence of the Executive Secretary of CONA, Captain Fernando MINGRAM L The GT-Envac meeting was chaired by Mr. Miguel Fernandez D., from Meteorological Service of the Navy (SMA). On the occasion, were carried presentations about weather conditions currently observed in Chile, associated with El Niño 2009/2010. Subsequently discussed the applicability of the indicator ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation), proposed by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association) to the reality of our country. The GT-DOCA meeting was chaired by Dr. Samuel HORMAZABAL F. from University of Concepción (UDEC). At this time the Chairman of the Group presented a video prepared by this House of Studies on the earthquake and tsunami of February 27, 2010 and reported about the completion of the International Course (Whirlwind at ocean), held from June 7 to 12 in Concepcion. At the end of the meeting was elected the new Chairman of the Working Group, Mr. Thomas FONSECA Oceanographer F. of AQUAMBIENTE S.A. |
