Six Officer Students of the 4th Regular Course of Military Engineering (CRIM) dictated by the Academia Politecnica del Ejercito, visited the SHOA on the morning of November 23. The purpose of their visit was to look with another perspective at the work to be done as future cartographers from the Instituto Geografico Militar (IGM).
The delegation, led by the Chief of Course 4th CRIM, Mayor Mr. Pedro Castillo, was received by the Deputy Director of SHOA, Captain Enrique Silva Villagra, who gave them a warm welcome, and accompanied them during the tour of the Units of the Service. Captain Silva talked with special emphasis about the process involved in the preparation of the National Nautical Cartography.
In that sense, Commander Silva explained the different steps carried out both in the field, as well as in cabinet to generate nautical charts and the interaction between Cartographic Agencies of Defense for the successful development of this product so important and necessary for sailing off the coast of Chile.
Later, the Officer students visited the Operations Room of the National Tsunami Warning System (SNAM), being able to appreciate hands-on the professional and technical skills that come together in these facilities when faced with an emergency.
