CHILEAN NAVY HYDROGRAPHIC AND OCEANOGRAPHIC SERVICE

On Tuesday, November 12, the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy of Ecuador, Admiral Mauricio Alvear Oramas, accompanied by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Chilean Navy, Commodore Mr. Yerco Marcic Conley, visited the premises of the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA) as part of the XI Bilateral Meeting of General Staffs of the Armed Forces of Chile and Ecuador.

Upon arrival, the Officers were received by the Deputy Director of SHOA, Captain Mr.Enrique Silva Villagra, who, after giving them a warm welcome, took them to the Operations Room of the National Tsunami Warning System (SNAM) , where he explained the protocols, interactions and communications established with other agencies involved in the management of an emergency. In this regard, he talked to the process of receiving seismic information from international organizations and the National Seismological Center; the applications that are used to process and analyze such data and the subsequent dissemination of newsletters to civil and military authorities who are responsible for coordinating the necessary measures to safeguard the lives of people when facing this type of catastrophe.

After the tour, Rear-admiral Alvear was invited to sign the Guestbook for Illustrious SHOA Visitors, where he expressed his appreciation for all the experience transmitted during activity.
