The 130th Session of the National Oceanographic Committee (CONA, by its initials in Spanish) took place at the premises of the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA, by its initials in Spanish), on Friday, November 22nd, and it was attended by the 9 Working Groups of the CONA, Representatives of the Member Institutions of the CONA and the Vice president of the Chilean Society of Marine Sciences (SCHCM, by its initials in Spanish), Mr. Marcelo CAMPOS. The welcome speech was given by Commander Mr. Cristian DÍAZ, who acted on behalf of the Captain Mr. Patricio CARRASCO. The Assembly was presided over by the Executive Secretary of the CONA, Captain Mr. Fernando MINGRAM.
During the assembly, a briefing of the activities carried out by the Executive Secretariat, the 9 Working Groups, and a report of the representative of the Executive Committee of the CIMAR Program (CEPC, by its initials in Spanish) regarding the realization of the Cruiseship CIMAR 19 Fiordos, on board of the AGS 61 “Cabo de Hornos” were presented. Finally, the Activities Plan for 2014 was presented as well.
The highlight of the meeting was the incorporation of the Chilean Society of Marine Sciences (SCHCM) to the CONA. Their application for admission was put to the vote with the positive recommendation by the Technical Council of Programming and Planning (CTPP, by its initials in Spanish), the request was approved by unanimity by the 19 Institutional Representatives who attended.
