CHILEAN NAVY HYDROGRAPHIC AND OCEANOGRAPHIC SERVICE

On Monday November 25th, the Head of the Oceanography Department of the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy (SHOA, by its initials in Spanish), First Lieutenant Mr. Carlos ZUÑIGA, received the person in charge of the Neptune Program Division of the Brazilian Army, the Lieutenant Commander Mr. Antonio GONCALVES DA SILVA JUNIOR, who was accompanied by the Commander Mr. Yerko CATTARINICH, from the Navy General Staff.

During their visit, the Lieutenant ZUÑIGA made a presentation about the duties of the SHOA, and emphasized on its history, mission and different tasks performed by the service, in office or on site. Later, they visited The Operation Room of the National Tsunami Warning System (SNAM, by its initials in Spanish), where they were shown its functioning and the improvements made. Finally, they visited the SHELTER Unit.
