CHILEAN NAVY HYDROGRAPHIC AND OCEANOGRAPHIC SERVICE

On the morning of Friday December 12th Officers of the Companies Naval Reserve and CAOR Yates, led by Captain Mr. Cristián Figari, visited the premises of the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy.  

As soon as the activity started, Commander Figari expressed the importance that it has for this Companies of Officers to get to know the work done by the Service every day, urging everybody to actively participate of this activity in order to pass on to the community the professional and technological level with which SHOA performs all its tasks and duties.

After the introductory comments, Rear admiral Mr. Patricio Carrasco made a presentation about the history, structure and functions of the Service, on a national as well as on an international level, giving special emphasis to the National Tsunami Warning System (SNAM), where he explained the dynamics involved between the institutions involved in Emergency Management.   

After the presentation, the visitors were given a tour of the Service and learned about the Hydro-Cartographic Flow; the Time Station and the functioning of the Operations Room of the SNAM.
